About the project

Catermat.com handles the complex organization and delivery of catering services. Given its dynamic growth and the specific needs of this segment, it needed a modern, scalable solution that would connect internal company processes with the end sales channel for both B2B and B2C partners.

Solved problem

The client's original system and e-shop had long been unable to keep up with the company's growth, in both capacity and functionality. A complete redesign and development of a new system was driven by several key factors:

User problem: Employees wasted time due to the lack of a unified, real-time overview of stock levels and order status. On top of that, the structure of catering services is very specific (logistics, planning ingredients for events, renting out inventory), which the old system couldn't reflect.

Business problem: The old platform held back the acquisition of new B2B partners, couldn't scale effectively, and risked outages when processing larger orders. The client was losing opportunities because of a suboptimal purchasing process.

My role

On this project I took on a key dual role, connecting business thinking with hands-on design:

Solution Architect: Together with the client I defined the business requirements and designed the overall architecture and logic of the system. I was responsible for how the individual modules would connect.

UX/UI Designer: I designed the complete interface for both the e-shop and the ERP system. For the ERP I chose the proven IBM Carbon Design System as a base, while I built the e-shop as a fully custom design based on the client's visual identity.

The process

The whole project ran as agile development with regular client meetings, which let us respond flexibly to new inputs:

System architecture: First we analyzed the client's business needs in detail and designed the logical structure of the entire ERP.

Process diagrams: I created detailed diagrams of individual processes and data flows to prevent logical errors before drawing any UI.

ERP and e-shop design: Using the Carbon Design System I designed consistent screens for managing stock, orders, and logistics; in parallel, a greenfield visual design of the e-shop focused on a high conversion rate.

Unmoderated testing: We put the finished prototypes through testing directly at the client and optimized the design based on feedback from real users.

The solution

The result is a fully integrated platform: an ERP built on IBM's proven Carbon Design System for clear management of stock, orders, and logistics, and a custom-designed e-shop based on the client's visual identity, optimized for a high conversion rate across both B2B and B2C segments.

The result

The result of ten months of work is a robust, fully integrated platform that transformed how the whole company operates.

User impact: The internal team gained a modern tool with an instant overview of stock and orders, with no manual searching. The specific catering flows are naturally integrated into the system, which dramatically reduced errors.

Business impact: Catermat.com gained a highly scalable system and a representative e-shop that became a key tool for winning new orders and simplified the purchasing process, especially for strategic B2B partners.
